Present For Andrew Ireland
Dunfermline Abbey`s Assistant Minister the Rev Andrew Ireland was presented with an ecclesiastical preaching scarf on the Sunday before Christmas.
After 40 years in the ministry, the last 23 at the Abbey Andrew Ireland who will be 72 in January has no plans to stop his unpaid work. He said "It is wonderful here. The congregation are so friendly and supportive."
This year he will officiate at around 40 weddings and he asked for the scarf to complement his normal attire. The Rev. Alastair Jessamine, who will perform at the Abbey`s other 40 weddings this year added "the present was fully deserved. He`s a great help to me in the Abbey. If every church had an Andrew Ireland, there wouldn`t be as much pressure on ministers these days."
Mr Ireland was a minister in Ayr and Edinburgh before training to be a teacher and workjing at Canmore Primary and finally North Queensferry Primary School.
