Sunday School - November 2010

We are now well into our Sunday School year having returned on 5th September and the children are as enthusiastic as ever.

LAST TERM

We were delighted to welcome some new members to Sunday School this year and hope they enjoy their time with us.

On Sunday 12th September, the Senior Sunday School helped the Youth Group pack up the backpacks for the Mary’s Meals charity. The children enjoyed participating in this project and deciding whether to fill a backpack for a boy or a girl.

Coffees – Sunday 19th September
The Sunday School staff prepared the coffees on the 19th September and we decided to take part in MacMillan Cancer Support’s ‘World`s Biggest Coffee Morning’ which was being held that week. Thanks to all who came along to the coffees to support us. The grand total raised from the coffees and the Sunday School and Youth Group’s collections that week was £127.

Harvest
Our Harvest Thanksgiving Pageant of Youth Service took place on Sunday 26th September with all the youth organisations taking part. The Sunday School enjoyed performing their sketch all about the great effort God puts into giving us our breakfast! The children also sang their harvest song with great gusto as usual.

We would like to thank everyone in the youth organisations and the congregation for donating food items for distribution to the homeless in our area. We are very fortunate that the congregation are always so generous when we appeal for donations and it meant that we were able to distribute a great deal of food to people in great need again this year.

Ruth
Following on from Harvest, we looked at the story of Ruth which made us think about kindness to others and companionship. We even used our trusty parachute to play a game to remind us of Ruth gleaning in the fields.

‘Our Church’
In November our theme was ‘Our Church’ and we learned some things about the Abbey in particular. The Senior Sunday School also looked at the role of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. We would like to thank Dr. Andrew McLellan for his participation.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

At the time of writing we are looking forward to hearing the Nativity story again and our various activities on the run up to Christmas. There is a children’s colouring page at the back to remind us of this special time of year.

Saturday 11th December 2010
Our Christmas Party will take place on 11th December and we hope all the Sunday School children will be able to attend this enjoyable event. As usual, we hope to have a visit by a very welcome friend at the end of the day!
Saturday 18th December 2010
We hope to have our final rehearsal for our Nativity in the Church on that Saturday morning. Parents will be informed nearer the time.

Sunday 19th December 2010
Our Christmas Family Service will be held on this date when the children will be performing their Nativity play. We invite everyone to come along and support us at this very special time of year. Please note that there will be no crèche that Sunday as all families will be in Church.
